Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

It’s tough enough to be a teenager, especially in this modern world. When your son or daughter deals with a mental health disorder, it makes their lives (and yours) even more challenging. New View Wellness in Atlanta created an adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program specifically to address the issues that affect young people. Our therapy team provides focused daytime care that helps adolescents come to terms with their mental health disorders and begin to heal.

What is a Partial Hospitalization Program for Adolescents?

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a type of outpatient care that provides multi-disciplinary treatment several days per week on an outpatient basis. This means the person attending it does not have to check into a facility, but can instead live in their own homes and travel to a treatment center for their appointments. An adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is a treatment plan created expressly to treat issues that affect teenagers. PHP is a step above intensive outpatient programs (IOP), which means it features many of the types of therapy and treatment modalities used in residential programs. It offers structured treatment that forms the foundation for helping adolescents learn to understand their diagnosis and begin to improve the symptoms of their mental health disorders.

How Can a Partial Hospitalization Program Help My Teen?

Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Programs help teenagers in several ways. Teenagers with mental health disorders often find it affects all areas of their lives. PHP helps them understand how to heal the wounds that have developed recently or in the past. They learn to improve how they view themselves and recognize that they have value and a right to believe in themselves.

For those who have been acting out in negative ways, PHP can be a bonafide way to help them alter their behavior. Completing a PHP program can help reduce disciplinary behaviors in school and improve the person’s grades. Adolescents learn healthy coping skills they use to reduce their temptation to lash out at their parents, teachers, and others. They gain a true understanding of their feelings and behaviors and how to adjust them in order to improve their mental health and level of happiness.

For those who require medications, finding the right one can make a real difference in how adolescents approach their treatment. When they feel better, they are more motivated to work hard in therapy and meet treatment goals.

Partial Hospitalization Program Schedule

Sessions in our adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program take place Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Similar to school hours, this provides a strong foundation of daily sessions that cover many bases. Appointments will consist of individual and group therapies that address a variety of types of mental illnesses. This consistent calendar of appointments creates the opportunity for teenagers to really dig in and address the challenges they face and learn how to overcome them. Upon completion of a PHP program, adolescents find themselves better prepared to do well in school and begin to set and achieve their goals.

Mental Health Disorders Our Partial Hospitalization Program for Teens Helps

Teenagers can develop all sorts of mental health disorders. Because of this, our adolescent program addresses several of them. Treatment begins by providing a thorough assessment of each young person we see. This allows us to understand their exact diagnosis and devise a treatment plan that meets their needs. The types of mental health disorders we treat include:

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Thought disorders
  • Trauma
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Depression
  • Schizophrenia
  • Disassociative Identity Disorder
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

We also treat dual diagnosis, which is the presence of an addiction to drugs or alcohol alongside a mental illness.

Benefits of PHP for Mental Health

Young people gain a host of benefits when they attend our adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program. Our therapy provides a safe outlet for teenagers to talk about their emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and experiences. They gain valuable insight into how to change negative thought and behavior patterns into positive ones. For many, this means an ability to stop seeing their lives as them against the world. They discover they have a safe, resilient place in their family, among their peers, and in a future they can get excited about.

Our staff of psychiatrists and other mental health counselors have experience knowing how to communicate with adolescents. We bring out the best in them as they begin to open up and affect positive changes during therapy. In addition, we provide access to several types of prescription medications that help alleviate symptoms of poor mental health.

Finally, we believe in keeping parents involved in the treatment their children receive. We provide family counseling to help loved ones learn to communicate more effectively and work towards healing the family unit.
